About Us

 Steve Bonner 

Steve Bonner is President of SONRI, Inc., a consulting firm dedicated to helping people talk about the balance between economic development, environmental impact, and social responsibility. SONRI accomplishes this mission through consulting services that promote partnerships, help organizations thrive and grow, and help people understand the complex relationships between land uses and natural resources. Steve has an extensive resume in government, the private sector, and the nonprofit world.

Steve is currently supporting the creation of policy and oversight for the new Air Force Community Partnerships Initiative for the Deputy

Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations. His most recent federal posting was an appointment as the Special Assistant for Compatible Land Use in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. In this role he was responsible for the policy and implementation of DoD’s Readiness and Environmental Protection Initiative, managing partnerships and allocating funding for one of the fastest growing land conservation funding programs in America.

Steve’s tenure in government includes service as a Community Planner with the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program, and with the United States Air Force where he developed broad experience in airfield encroachment and land use issues, including service in the first office opened to handle Base Realignment and Closure issues in 1989. He is a recognized expert in developing creative partnerships to meet unique needs. In the 1990’s Mr. Bonner founded and led private firms that provide consultative services concerning or that invest in the re-capitalization of federal real estate assets.

Steve is the author of numerous professional papers and reports on regional planning and conservation, partnerships, defense privatization, and various socio-economic studies.  See Clients and Publications for more.

 Shawn Bonner

Marketing Director

Shawn Bonner is Director of Marketing for SONRI. Inc., a consulting firm dedicated to helping people talk about the balance between economic development, environmental impact, and social responsibility. She is the mother of two, a graduate of the University of Texas School of Business, and has a broad range of experience in small and large business and the nonprofit community.

In business Shawn has developed particular expertise in marketing and advertising for small business and employs a variety of social networking resources for her clients including internet marketing, web design and management, ad design, and marketing material developments. 

Shawn’s nonprofit experience includes duties as Development Director for the Winston School San 
Antonio, and Operations Director for the Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne, Texas. In these roles, she was responsible for developing and implementing fundraising and outreach strategies, program development, marketing, volunteer and staff management, training, and financial resource management.

Past Rotarian of the year and  Past President of the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club, Ms. Bonner believes strongly in giving back to the community.

As a member of the Government Affairs 
Council, she helped develop the local Chamber of Commerce’s first legislative agenda. She goes the extra mile in her role as Chamber Ambassador, helping new businesses learn about the

community and using her community leadership to help business succeed
